Compassion Ministry

When Jesus Christ was on earth, He “went about doing good”.  Acts 10:38

The Baptist Conference Women of Killam Baptist Church have experienced the goodness of God, and desire to follow in His footsteps, helping others in His name.

Do you need prayer?
The BCW has a prayer line coordinated by Bonnie Abbott. If you can’t reach her phone Verda Walline or Sybil Williams is also available. Only the information you specify will be given out. If your prayer request is on behalf of someone else make sure he or she agrees to having it put on the prayer chain. The BCW ladies will bring your prayer needs before God, trusting Him to answer on your behalf.

Are you bereaved in the loss of a loved one?
Our Pastor is ready to help you with comfort from the Scriptures and with planning or conducting your loved one’s funeral service. If you need help with a luncheon or meal for the immediate family or a lunch following the memorial service, our BCW can assist you.

Are you lonely and would like to talk with someone on the phone or have them visit in your home? Do you know of someone in the hospital who would appreciate a visit and prayer for their needs?
Contact our Pastor.

Are you attending college and feel lonely or disconnected?
The BCW are ready to pray for you. We send care packages to students who have been affiliated with the Baptist Church at Killam.

Are you moving into the community and wish to attend Killam Baptist Church?
The BCW will do what we can to make your move go smoothly and to welcome you into our Church.

Are you finding it hard to cope because of sickness in the family or other difficulties?
We are willing to pray for you and are available to talk with you by phone or a visit. Perhaps you are in a crisis situation and need help with meals or child care.

If you love the Lord Jesus and would like to be involved in helping others, we would like to welcome you into our church family and work with you to reflect God’s love among ourselves and to our community and beyond. We support missionaries to other countries through prayer and givings as they minister to the spiritual and physical needs of people there.

Compassion Canada

The evangelism and discipleship of children in the developing world is Compassion Canada's main mandate. Needy children are at risk of not knowing Jesus. That's why Compassion makes a point of presenting the gospel to all the children and families in their programs. As part of walking in Christ's footsteps, they also clothe the children who need clothes. And they teach those who need an education. It is all part of living the gospel and modeling the love of God.

It would be a tragedy to satisfy human needs and fail to speak the life-changing words of Jesus. But Compassion also has a responsibility as Christians to care for the poor among us (James 2:15-16). Providing for physical needs is a powerful way of modeling God's love.

"Child sponsorship is not an end in itself," says Barry Slauenwhite, president of Compassion Canada, "but a means to reach people with the message of Jesus. Since spiritual poverty is by far the greatest human need, we use child sponsorship as an effective strategy to communicate the gospel and feed people's spiritual hunger."

Working only through local churches, Compassion Canada releases children from poverty by providing necessary physical, material and educational resources in a caring Christian environment. Christian teachers also share the love and gospel of Jesus with children daily. At Compassion, they do not simply speak the truth; they also apply themselves to live the truth, ministering to the needy children of the world in Jesus' name.
